Seemingly insignificant signing
The Cubs acquired IF Jeff Baker from the Rockies.
In his only true full season in 2008, he batted .268 with 12 HR and 48 RBI. He has played 1B, 2B, 3B, LF and RF in his career.
***UPDATE***I guess it's not so insignificant after all. The Cubs designated Ryan Freel for assignment (i.e. let him go), and Baker will join the Cubs tonight. He just completed a rehab assignment after suffering a right hand sprain.
When Baker gets into a game, he will become the 36th Cub to see time this season. The Cubs used 42 players last year.
