Baseball time is here again

Baseball season's underway
Well you better get ready for a brand new day.
Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

They're singing ...
Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

Go, Cubs, go
Go, Cubs, go

Hey, Chicago, what do you say
The Cubs are gonna win today.

You know why I can post the lyrics to a song saying the Cubs are going to win today?

Because the Cubs play a baseball game today. At 2pm vs. the Dodgers. Because spring training starts today.

Sure, we're still 40 days from the start of the regular season, but fake baseball starts today! Bats, and gloves, and baseballs, and pitches, and strikes, and baserunning, and other baseball game-related things. Enjoy!

  1. I can't think of a worse way to start spring training than to sing that song. Its 40 days from real baseball starting and the Cubs (mostly you and that song) have already made me kinda sick. But I guess it is a little like baseball season now becuase I get a chance to root for my second favorite team. Go Dodgers!

  2. You and every other Cubs hater is in denial: You love that song. You sing it in the shower every morning. You've memorized the lyrics. It's like that Journey song from the Sox '05 season. I pretended I hated it for a while, but I love it. I wish it were the Cubs' song. And you wish you had a "Go Sox Go" song. Admit it. Admit it!

  3. There is no "Go Sox Go" song because "Go Cubs Go" was created after and in response to "Lets Go Go-Go White Sox". You guys being the inferior team only get to say "go" twice and get far fewer lyrics because of the average Cubs fan's meager intellect.

    White Sox
    White Sox
    Let's White Sox

Let's Go Go Go White Sox
We're with you all the way

You're always in there fighting and you do your best
We're glad to have you out here in the Middle West

We're gonna root root root root White Sox
And cheer you on to victory

When we're in the stands we'll make those rafters ring
All through the season you will here us sing

Let's Go Go Go White Sox
    Chicago's proud of you

    White Sox
    White Sox
    Go Go White Sox

Root Root Root for the White Sox
We'll cheer you on to victory

When we're in the stands we'll make those rafters ring
All through the season you will here us sing

Let's Go Go Go White Sox
    Chicago's proud of you

    White Sox
    White Sox
    Go Go White Sox

Let's Go Go Go White Sox
    Chicago is proud of you

  4. That is unquestionably the lamest "song" in the history of sports. Rather than making others aware of this monstrosity, you should probably lobby the Sox to come up with something their fans can rally around. Maybe something involving the musical stylings of Larry the Cable Guy or a caveman mating call?

  5. I've got an idea for Notable Number: The Cubs have played 815 games since they last got to sing "Go Cubs Go" after winning a post-season game. The number for the White Sox and "Let Go Go Go White Sox".... 3.

  6. The Cubs song is a fine little tune. I'll admit that sometimes, when I think that nobody is around, I'll go ahead and sing a few verses to myself. My problem is how they have started to play the darn song after the Cubs have already won. Doesn't this bother anyone else?? "The Cubs are gonna win today", not "the Cubs have won today!!" So play it before the game starts, and then there would be no problem because the lyrics would actually make sense in that context. Or even play it during the game, like during one of the last few innings, and I could cheerfully get on board with that. However, the song should never ever be played, sung, hummed, whistled, or otherwise performed after a game has ended because it makes it seem as though Cubs fans have no grasp of the space/time continuum. I'm having difficulty right now trying to think of a bigger crime against humanity in these times than this current practice. Other than that, though, great song!!!!!

  7. That's hilarious. It always has seemed a bit strange to me, but since whenever I sing it I've just a) had 3-5 beers, and b) watched the Cubs win a game, I generally don't care about the backwards nature of it all, I'm just happy to be singing a song about the Cubs winning with 40,000 of my closest friends.

  8. Brandon: your sentimental and commonsense response is an affront to my irrational cynical rant. Good day sir.
